Yesterday Tim and I decided to go to my grandma's house after church to eat lunch. My cousin Christy and her boyfriend Kurt, my cousin Jessica, and my friend Sabrina were all there. We all helped get the meal ready and was able to all fit at the same table to eat. This has never happened before because there are so many of us in the family. We had just the right number of people yesterday and I have to say, I had the best time at grandma's house that I have had in a very long time. No one was fighting, no one was in a bad mood and deciding to share with everyone else. We all laughed alot and enjoyed a great meal together talking about high school basketball from my old school and a few other things.
Grandma was suppose to meet Gary, one of my friends, at my great grandma's house at 3:30 that day to look at the house. When my great grandma died, grandma sold the house to my friend. Now he doesn't live there any longer and he is wanting to sell it. When all of us found out that grandma was going to that house to look around, we all got excited and wanted to go too. So, I called Gary and made arrangements for all of us to see the house instead of just grandma. My aunt showed up as well, with her other three kids. None of my family had been in the house since my great grandma was alive and they wanted to see all of the renovations that had been made since then. We were all very pleased with everything. All of us except for grandma. Grandma was obviously upset that time didn't just stand still at that house. She seemed bothered by the fact that so many things had changed. I think she expected to walk in the door and practically see her mother sitting at the table as usual, with everything else in its place. Though, she may never admit to it. I think it was a hard day for her. For me it was great, because I had a bunch of my family in the same house and living room where we had previously had years and years of christmas gatherings. It felt like a small family reunion only a little better. Somehow, it felt like grandma Russell was invited to this one. ;)
All in all, the day was an emotional one. Family and memories seemed to have been the theme for the day. Thank God for family. Thank God for memories. Good ones! ;)
